Tipsy Scoop – Spiked Mint Chocolate Chip

A Grasshopper Solidified

Tipsy Scoop - Spiked Mint Chocolate Chip - Alcoholic Ice CreamThe final installment of my far too long five part saga wherein I try the various alcoholic ice creams available at the renown alcoholic ice cream shop, Tipsy Scoop. I think we can all agree I’ve droned on long enough with the setup in the past couple of posts, so I’ll get right to it.

Spiked Mint Chip Profile

In trying to think about how to write this review, I definitely had some internal struggling going on as I wasn’t sure what to make of this flavor, so I’ll have to walk you through both sides.

Positive Outlook: It’s pretty delish. If you’ve ever had a grasshopper cocktail, you know well what you’re in for here. You got a little creme de menthe, some creme de cacao, throw in some Irish cream and milk, and you got yourself a grasshopper. This ice cream is a perfect rendition of that.

Devil’s Advocate: Isn’t this just a slightly alcoholic mint chocolate chip? What’s so great about that?

Positive Outlook: Au contraire mon frere. To the untrained tongue, perhaps it may seem like that, but in actuality there are many differences. Mint chocolate chip is a standard staple in the world of ice cream, and usually consists of a decently strong mint base, and an equally strong chocolate chip to compete with the mint. Over time, you’ll often see the chocolate begin to linger longer and longer the more of it you eat, until it’s chocolate with a mint finish.

Devil’s Advocate: *Eyes rolling. And I’m guessing it’s a completely different case he-

Positive Outlook: But that ISN’T the case here! The mints are downplayed to be more of a mint cream, and the chocolate chips are light enough as to not over power the whole thing. The beauty lies in the subtlety, wherein everything is present, but no one thing steals the show. Little bit of mint, throw in a little bit of chocolate, and inject just an itsy bitsy smidgen of alcohol, and here is your ice cream.

Devil’s Advocate: But can you even say that subtlety about the chocolate since there’s only about 2.5 oz of ice cream here? I mean, there’s not that much time for the chocolate to overpower the other flavors.

Positive Outlook: ……. Well shit. I suppose that is true. But it’s still a really solid flavor that it feels like can be eaten endlessly.

Devil’s Advocate: Uh huh. And you know that this can be eaten endlessly from your extensive- what was it again? 2.5 oz? That’s not even a full scoop. It’s not even a single serving of those ridiculous serving sizes on pints of ice cream!

Positive Outlook: *Sighs. I suppose you’re right. But the little bit I did try was pretty darn good.

Spiked Mint Chip Conclusion

In small quantities, this is a really pretty good flavor. It’s light in mint, chocolate, and alcohol tastes, and while still providing all three elements in tandem harmony. Only problem is, I’m not 100% sure if this greatness would continue in larger quantities. Many ice creams taste good as samples, and then when you try them in full scoop mode, something changes.

Well at least this isn’t a sample, but I can’t say for certain that it would hold up when three times the size I tasted. All in all, I 80% sure it’s really good, but this is one of those flavors I’d recommend you try for yourself.

If you’re looking forward to trying this light alcoholic mint chip, Tipsy Scoop can be found at 217 E 26th St, New York, NY 10010.
